Game engine is so bizare I think it only ever uses one core of a processor, 2gb of ram, etc etc regardless of system hardware, weird old school game engine/windows. exe to be able to access more RAM, I can attest to trying to google that (4GB something or other was the name I think), for a quick attempt at helping the problem, but beyond that I won't be responsible for recommending any of the tweaks I've tried over the years.

The core of a crash problem like this rests not with your hardware but within the game code itself, the game is extremely prone to memory leaks, and as a 32 bit title, attempts to draw on more RAM than the archetexture of its software, or windows, will allow it. I hate to say but it is just a reality of that game engine, its poorly optimized, and CA, MS nor SEGA, nor any of the vid card manufacturers etc could ever seem to root out the problem. Long time player of SG2 and sufferer from this problem. Just reinstalled this after years, had a crash during a battle, thought "OH! they have to of found a solution for this by now", and found this as the most recent thread about it xD, /sigh. Hey, TL:DR Game is ♥♥♥♥♥♥ mate, love her for who she is, or move on. I can run Total War Rome 2 without problems, just this game and the two others mentioned are crashing. It does not stop every battle, but quite often it will freeze and windows will say it encountered a problem but never tells me that problem. If anybody has any solutions that they can think of besides the ones mentioned, please responded as the game has not worked properly for me at around 100 hours of gameplay.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled, run as admin, done windows 7 compatibility mode, verify cache, unchecked v sync and adjusted graphics settings on my Nividia Geforce GTX 2gb vram 860m and Intel quad core i5 4590 T processor with 2.0GHz turbo boosted to run at 3.0GHz. I have also updated graphics card, Bios and sound cards. I have tried everything from deleting things like Blob files to renaming preferences as well as doing something with scripts, (was a while ago so I cant quite remember every file). For me, Total War Shogun 2 as well as Fall of the Samurai and Napoleon Total War all crash in real time battles at random points in the game. Hi everyone, I was just wondering if anybody else was having problems with the game crashing.
